Blitzkrieg
Blitzkrieg was a fast paced warfare used by the Germans in WWII. It involved a first and second wave attacking right after another. In the first wave the Germans used planes and fast moving tanks to scatter enemy lines. The second wave was usually made up of fast moving vehicles and foot soldiers to then wipe out the remaining, scattered infantry units. This fast paced attack was effective at quickly pushing through enemy lines and overwhelming defensive units. As a result French and British were pushed back early in the war and eventually led to German control over France, Poland, and nearly Great Britain.
Appeasement
Appeasement is trying to get the enemy what he wants so that he will eventually settle for what he has. France and Great Britain used appeasement to convince Hitler to avoid war. This tactic however failed miserably in several ways. The first being that Germany did not have a massive army at the time but appeasing him allowed him to build up his army enough to be a threat against the Allies and the Soviet Union. The second was that Germany was able to capture a large portion of Europe without having to waste even a single soldier in battle. Lastly Hitler was so bent on world domination that he didn't settle with what he had and then when he was good and ready invaded countries with the army he had been building up.
Island Hopping
Island hopping was used by the Allies in the war with the Japanese on the Pacific front. It was capturing islands controlled by Japanese getting closer and closer to the mainland of Japan until they were close enough to bomb Japan himself. Island hopping led to some of the more famous battles in the Pacific such as the Battle of Iwo Jima and the Battle of Okinawa. Island hopping proved to be a success when the Allies finally bombed the Japanese mainland taking out several military bases and killing several civilians. Island hopping also led to the liberation of the Philippines.
