Battle For Moscow
This battle was originally named operation typhoon by the Nazis during WWII. Hitler believed that if he could capture Moscow then the entire USSR would fall quickly without its capital. However like they had done in WWI the Germans were fighting a war on two fronts despite their best efforts not to. Hitler's forces were not near as powerful as he thought they were and his troops weren't properly prepared for the Russian winter. Cold weather and over 70 USSR infantry divisions helped hold back the German advance and keep them from capturing Moscow. However the USSR win was not a complete victory, as the Soviets lost over 50 percent of their men.
Battle of corral sea
If the Japanese would have succeeded in the Battle of Corral Sea it would have opened the route to capture New Guinea and eventually Australia which was the primary Naval base in the Pacific during WWII. The Battle of Corral Sea was also the first naval battle fought by just planes. The two ships involved never got close enough to see each other. This was possible do to the advancements made in radar during WWII. The Japanese wanted to attack a different route but bombings from American aircraft carriers persuaded them to take an alternate route that ended up losing them the war.
Battle of Berlin
The battle of Berlin all but ended WWII in Europe. The Soviets pushed on towards the eastern edge of Germany and eventually made their way into Berlin the heart of the Nazi's territory. The Russian Army included more than 2.5 million foot soldiers while the dwindling German army was down to a mere one million men. The German army in fact was so desperate that over 45,000 soldiers on the German front line were under the age of 18. Despite the obvious advantages the Soviets had the Battle of Berlin still took its toll on the Soviet army.
Battle of Iw0 JiMa
The Battle of Iwo Jima was fought over the key island of Iwo Jima. The Allies wanted the island for key air strips to land their bombers on and have them closer to Japan. The Allies started by softening up the defenses on the island with bombing runs from air craft carriers in the area. The Allies then launched their assault on the island sending over 30,000 troops against the 22,000 Japanese soldiers that occupied it. Of the 22,000 Japanese only 212 surrendered showing how willing the enemy was to defend their territory. In the end Iwo Jima fell to the Allies and helped turn the tide of the war.
